Junior B hurlers lose

Taghmon/Camross Junior B hurlers were defeated narrowly by Horeswood by 1-11 to 2-4 in Grantstown on Saturday afternoon in a first round New Ross district championship match. In the first half brilliant displays by the backs especially Edward Cousins in goal and captain, Darragh Kelly, at full-back, and corner backs Paudge Codd and Tom Carty limited Horeswood to a single point. At the other end Taghmon made better of limited opportunities and a well-struck ground stroke by Mick Carty found the net and Adrian Morrissey pointed a free. Taghmon led by 1-1 to 0-1 at half time. However, the elements did not aid Taghmon/Camross, and the breeze that had slightly favoured Horeswood in the first half switched around to the North and strengthened favouring Horeswood in the second half. Horeswood pegged back the lead with points and finally found the back of the net and led by as much as 6 points. Taghmon knuckled down with points from substitutes Shane Coady and Denis Nolan before a brilliant goal by centre forward Micheál Hayes narrowed the gap to a point. But more points by Horeswood towards the end secured the victory. Scorers were Mick Carty (1-0), Micheál Hayes (1-0), Adrian Morrissey (0-2), Shane Coady and Denis Nolan (0-1). Also good for Taghmon were Ger Kelly, Joe Doyle, Diarmuid Buttimer and Micheál Grady. The club wishes Horeswood the best of luck in the semi-final.

Race Night

The club in association with Bord na nÓg is staging its annual race night in the Regal Lodge on Friday October 15 at 8:30. This is the only Bord na nÓg fundraiser this year and the support of all parents of players is requested. A bus service will be available on the night from the square in Taghmon and there will be a bar extension and music. Horses are on sale from committee members for £20 each. The winning owner in each race will receive a cash prize of £100. Anyone interested in sponsoring a race or taking an advertisement in the race card should contact any committee member. All horses and ads must be in by Friday October 8 so we can go to press with the race card.
