Taghmon/Camross Weekly Press Release, 13 September, 1999

Juvenile Hurling

The juvenile hurlers were defeated in the district final by a strong Horeswood team.  The team acquitted itself well and the margin was only one goal, 2-7 to 1-7.  The team played against the wind in the first half and was lucky to be down by just 1-3 to 0-2 after a dour first half.  The second half was much livelier and good pressure at midfield and in the half forwards resulted in a number of frees converted by John Kelly who closed the gap to a point.  However, a number of points and a kicked goal gave Horeswood a 2 goal lead.  Taghmon responded well with a well-taken goal by Darren Colfer, but sadly time ran out.  The scorers were John Kelly (0-5), Darren Colfer (1-1), and Derek Hanlon (0-1). Best for Taghmon-Camross were Darren Colfer, Martin Coady, John Kelly, Paul MacDonald, Barry Doyle and man of the match, Timmy Shannon.  Overall, on the day Horeswood was the better team, and the club wishes them the best of luck representing the district in the county series.

U-11 Ground Hurling

Congratulations to the U-11 ground hurlers who won the Division 2 last week.  They defeated Tara Rocks, St. Martin's and Bannow/Ballymitty.  A last minute winner by Captain Robert Nolan was the crucial score.  The team played a total of 21 matches in the competition and suffered defeat only twice.  The panel was Mark Kelly, TJ Codd, Brian O'Flaherty, Aidan Whitty, Paul Walsh, John Doyle, Robert Nolan, Richard Comerford, Tony Kent, Callum Ennis, Padraic O'Gorman, Stephen Codd, Seamus McLoughlin, Michael O'Gorman, Sean O'Gorman, Alan Nolan and Barry O'Gorman.  The club thanks Derek Kent and Tom O'Gorman for their powerful effort training the team.  Also the U-12's defeated Gusserane 5-16 to 2-2 in the championship.
