Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 17 July 2000

Football Championship

Jason McLoughlan succeeded where Anthony Tohill failed on Sunday by kicking a point from a free from 50 yards out to force a replay with St. Fintan's in the first round of the intermediate championship in Grantstown on Sunday (1-10 to 2-7, HT 0-5 to 0-4). Taghmon/Camross were leading against last year's junior champions for most of the second half until a fortunate goal gave St. Fintan's a 2 point lead. Jason McLoughlan (0-6) scored 2 to level it including the monster kick 3 minutes into injury time. It was a very young team and the performance was encouraging considering the limited championship experience of the team. Eoin O'Gorman performed well in a new role in mid field and for the most part limited the effect of dangerman, Enda Newport. Minors Adrian Morrissey (0-2), Jason Delaney (0-1) and Darren Colfer acquitted themselves well in their first senior championship outing, and Jonny Waters played well at wing back. The veteran full back line of Tom O'Gorman, Noel Doyle and Trevor McLoughlan played well throughout and there were strong performances from the evergreen Bernard O'Gorman, Micheál O'Grady (1-1), Malcolm McLoughlan, Michael O'Sullivan, Jimmy Doran and Eugene McGee.
