Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 31 July 2000
Hurling Championship
If championship hurling matches lasted 5 minutes Taghmon/Camross intermediate hurling team would have won its first championship match since 1995. Unfortunately things did not work out and after a very bright start a series of defensive blunders resulted in goals which dispirited Taghmon's young team and energised Horeswood to greater effort. The team was weakened by the absence on holiday of first choice goalkeeper and a cornerback, and the normally solid Tom O'Gorman aggravated a groin injury early in the match which weakened the back division further. Of the forwards only the evergreen Bernard O'Gorman registered from play with 3 points. The other 3 points of the Camross total were scored by Robbie O'Callaghan from frees. The final score was 6-9 to 0-6 (HT 4-4 to 0-5). Only two or three players had performances of which they can be proud, but the team is young and hopefully can build on the earlier league success to challenge better in the championship next year.
