Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 19 June 2000

Hurling

The second hurling team lost by 2-9 to 1-9 to Lady's Island in Taghmon last Tuesday evening (HT 1-5 to 1-5). Qualification for the final now needs help from other teams. The scorers for Taghmon/Camross were Nicky Cousins (0-4), Micheal O'Grady (1-0), Tom O'Gorman (0-2), David Morrissey (0-2) and Bernard O'Gorman (0-1). Despite the loss the club can feel happy about David Morrissey's performance after a long injury lay-off.

Football League climax

The first football team is now relegated back to Premier B after one year in the top-flight after losing 1-9 to 2-4 to Glynn-Barntown in Taghmon on Saturday evening. The team fought back well at the start of the second half to overcome a 0-6 to 0-2 half time deficit and lead briefly by 1 point thanks in large part to a goal by Micheal O'Grady. But after that a number of chances were squandered and a goal from Cormac Jevens put Glynn well ahead. Taghmon came back into the match with a fortunate goal from a point attempt by Jason McLoughlan, but sadly at the end of the match the team was left to rue the might have beens. The scorers were Jason McLoughlan (1-1), Micheal O'Grady (1-0), Malcolm McLoughlan (0-2), Eoin Morrissey (0-1). For Glynn-Barntown Ian Wickham (0-8, all frees), Cormac Jevens (1-0), Gary Laffan (0-1).
