Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 05 March 2000

 ACFL

The All County Football League began this weekend and the senior team playing in Premier A was unlucky to lose by the minimum to St Anne’s by 1-8 to 1-9.  The team fought back well from a first half deficit of 1-6 to 0-2 in a game played in nearly perfect conditions in Taghmon on Saturday afternoon.  A goal by Bernard O’Gorman early in the second half reinvigorated Taghmon.  But for poor marksmanship the game would have been won.  The scorers for Taghmon were Bernard O’Gorman (1-1), Malcolm McLoughlan (0-3), Gearóid Kelly, Jason McLoughlan, Joe Doyle and Derek Breen (0-1).  Young Jason Delaney and Joe Doyle played well when introduced in the second half.  Martin Hogan and Micheál O’Grady battled well.  All the backs played well especially Michael O’Sullivan and Noel Doyle.

The Juniors played at Ballymurn on Sunday and defeated Crosabeg-Ballymurn by 2-10 to 0-4.  Taghmon led by 1-4 to 0-4 at half time after playing against a strong cold wind in the first half.  But for poor marksmanship the margin of victory would have been greater.  The scorers were George Dee (1-2), Robbie O’Callaghan (1-1), Declan Clark (0-3), Malcolm McLoughlan (0-3), Jamie Hanlon (0-1).  John ‘Horse’ Roche made a welcome return after a long layoff recovering from injury.

The most important match to be played by the club for several years is St Patrick’s weekend in St Patrick’s Park when the seniors play Naomh Eanna in the relegation final.  The losers will suffer the ignominy of relegation to intermediate ranks.  The club requests all supporters to cheer on the lads in this important encounter.  At this important stage of the club development, relegation would be a disaster and everyone in the parish should do their bit to support.
