Junior Hurling League
The junior B hurlers are in the playoff for honours in Division 2D. In the first playoff match recently they defeated Kilmore by 0-14 to 0-9. Derek Breen dominated midfield and there were good performances from many of the team including Bernard O'Gorman, Nicholas Cousins, Tom O'Gorman and Darren Colfer. This weekend Our Lady's Island are the opposition with the winners to be promoted and to win the right to play Clongeen in the division final.
Junior B Football
The Junior B football championship match against Gusserane was played the weekend before last and was abandoned with 15 minutes remaining. John Kavanagh was knocked unconscious and an ambulance was called to take him to hospital. The light was too poor to resume at this stage. Thankfully, John was fine and was discharged from hospital the same evening after a precautionary inspection. The replay has not yet been fixed.
Underage
The U-12 footballers qualified for the county final with a victory by the minimum, 1-9 to 2-5, over Duffry Rovers in Bree last Thursday evening. They qualify for the right to play the winners of the other semi-final between Adamstown and Oulart. The victory was achieved with a well-taken goal in the last few minutes when the team trailed by 2 points.
Sadly the minor hurlers will not repeat their football success and were defeated by Shelmaliers by 0-10 to 1-4 on Saturday afternoon in Killurin in the Roinn 1 semi-final replay. The team was fortunate to only trail by 3 points at half-time, 0-6 to 0-3, after Shelmaliers dominated the first half. Sadly, the second half performance was not sufficient to overcome this deficit. The reason for the defeat was that few of the Taghmon-Camross players played to their full potential. The best performances came from Brian and Michael O'Gorman in the half-back line and in the second half from Eoin Lacey in the middle of the field. The scorers were Paul Doyle (1-0), Eoin Lacey, John Kelly, Adrian Morrissey and Liam Óg Neville (0-1).
