Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 18 September 2000
Junior Hurling League
The junior B hurlers qualified for promotion to Division 2C and to play Clongeen in the division final. In the second play-off match Our Lady's Island were defeated by 1-14 to 1-9 in Ballymore last Friday evening. It was a match of two halves with OLI favoured with the wind, sun and hill in the first half. However, they failed to fully capitalise and only led by 1-7 to 0-5 at the interval. Most of this lead was gone before a minute of the second half was played when Mick O'Gorman kicked to the net. From this point on Taghmon/Camross dominated and the backs held OLI to just 2 points in the second half. There were strong performances from Mick O'Gorman, Tom O'Gorman, Jason Delaney and Adrian Morrissey in the forwards, Darren Colfer in midfield scored 3 points from play. In the second half Michael Nolan was exceptional at wing-back and the full back line of Darragh Kelly, Eoin Lacey and Niall Lacey was well on top. The scorers were Mick O'Gorman (1-2), Darren Colfer (0-3), Nicky Cousins (0-3, frees), Adrian Morrissey (0-2), Bernard O'Gorman (0-1), Eoin Lacey (0-1, 65). In the first playoff match recently they defeated Kilmore by 0-14 to 0-9. Derek Breen dominated midfield and there were good performances from many of the team including Bernard O'Gorman, Nicholas Cousins, Tom O'Gorman and Darren Colfer.
Junior B Football
The replayed Junior B football championship match against Gusserane was played on Sunday evening in Grantstown and the performance was far from memorable. Gusserane won by 4-6 to 1-4 and led by 1-4 to 1-2 at half time after playing against the wind. The match ended as a contest midway through the second half when David Morrissey was unfortunate to be sent off for a second bookable offence and Gusserane set-up their third goal from the resulting free. Few performances were noteworthy although Derek Kent in the forwards and John 'Horse' Roche in midfield tried hard throughout. Until sent off David Morrissey was the best of the backs. The scorers for Taghmon/Camross were Derek Kent (1-0), David Morrissey, Eoin Lacey, Nicky Cousins, and John Roche (0-1 each).
Underage
The U-12 footballers lost the county final to Adamstown by 2-3 to 0-2 in Grantstown on Saturday afternoon. They had qualified for the final with a victory by the minimum, 1-9 to 2-5, over Duffry Rovers in Bree recently.
