Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 2 April 2001

Hurling

The ACHL started this week and both Taghmon/Camross teams were in action. The first team lost to Bunclody in Bunclody on Sunday evening by the 3-6 to 1-9. Dave Bury's freetaking and a first half goal helped propel Camross into a 6 point half-time lead by 1-6 to 0-3. However, within seconds of the restart slack marking allowed Bunclody in to score a soft goal. Two further scuttery goals including the match winner minutes from the end cost us the match. There were good performances by Martin Hogan who tried hard throughout and Dave Bury who scored 1-6 of the total. The other points were scored by Nicky Cousins, Eddie Cousins and Robbie O'Callaghan.

On Saturday the second team defeated St James' in Mersheen by 1-10 to 0-9 (HT 0-4 to 0-5). The game was the first hurling outing for Taghmon-Camross by new recruit, former Wicklow hurling star David Bury. He provided 7 points of the total (6 frees). The other good performances were from Eugene McGee in goal, wingbacks Michael O'Gorman, Jr and David Morrissey and especially Eddie Cousins a substitute corner forward who scored the match turning goal. Scorers Dave Bury (0-7), Eddie Cousins (1-1), Nicky Cousins and Joe Doyle (0-1).
