Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 26 February 2001
Football
The ACFL started this week and both Taghmon/Camross teams were in action. The first team lost to Adamstown in Taghmon on Sunday afternoon by 2-5 to 0-3 (ht 2-1 0-1). The side was weakened by the absence of soccer players playing a cup match. Two goals in the first half by Padraig Lawlor ended the contest. The scorers were Jonathon Waters, Joe Doyle and Derek Breen for Taghmon; Padraig Lawlor (2-0), Philip Doyle, Eamon Kent (0-2), Paddy Whitty (0-1) for Adamstown.
On Saturday the second team defeated Ferns in Ferns by 2-7 to 0-3 (HT 1-2 to 0-1). The game was played in cold windy conditions which affected the markmanship of the Taghmon/Camross team. The highlight of the match was an excellent goal in the second half by young Derek O'Hanlon. The scorers were Derek O'Hanlon, Gearóid Kelly (1-0), Mick Carty (0-3), Joe Doyle (0-2), Darragh Kelly and Nicky Cousins (0-1). The selectors of the second team are Paul Hannon and George Dee as well as the first team selectors (Barry McGrath, manager, Bernard O'Gorman and Aindréas Ryan).
