Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 30 July 2001
The club’s second hurling teams won two matches in the last week. On Tuesday evening last the second team won the ACHL 2C fixture against Buffer’s Alley by 1-19 to 0-3 (HT 0-7 to 0-2). Man of the match was Eoin Lacey, who has recently returned after a long injury. He scored 1-9 including 2 pointed sideline cuts, 5 frees and 1-2 from play. The other scorers were Dave Bury (0-4, 3 frees), Bernard O’Gorman (0-2), David Banville, Tom O’Gorman, Martin Coady, and David Morrissey (0-1) each.
On Saturday evening the club defeated Horeswood in the Junior B championship by 2-11 to 3-6. Many of the players involved in the second team in the league are unavailable for Junior B championship having played in the Junior A championship. This made team selection easy. Eoin Lacey was available and his accurate long frees were crucial to the success. In total he scored 1-7. At half time Horeswood lead by 1-4 to 0-5. For the second half Nicholas Cousins was switched from goalkeeper to corner forward and Eoin Lacey from midfield to full forward which improved the potency of the attack. Junior A team manager John Waters came on as a substitute in the second half and scored a point. Michael O’Gorman and Shane Coady also registered points. The result means that there is now a 3-way tie in the group between Taghmon-Camross, Horeswood and Gusserane for the two district semi-final spots.
The first teams plays the postponed ACHL 2A home fixture against Clonard on Saturday evening. The New Ross district U-21 football final against Horeswood may be played on Friday evening in Grantstown.
