Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 4 June 2001

Football

Taghmon/Camross A is in serious danger of relegation from ACFL Premier B after a dismal performance against Shelmaliers in Hollymount on Saturday evening.  The final score was 1-10 to 0-3 (0-8 to 0-3 at HT).  Eight players from the championship opener were absent.  In the second half Bernard O’Gorman was sent off and selector Andreas Ryan received a touch-line ban.  The points were scored by Jason Delaney, Ger Power and John Kavanagh.

A junior match followed (ACFL 2B) with a more satisfactory outcome, Taghmon-Camross 2-9, Shelmaliers 2-8 (HT 1-4 to 2-0).  If half Taghmon chances were taken, the score would better reflect the team’s dominance.  It was a creditable performance because many of the lads had to play two, given the first team’s absenses.  The scores were by Ger Power (1-2), Paul Doyle (1-1), Dermot Breen (0-2), Joe Doyle (0-2), Mick Carty (0-1).

Official Opening

Preparations continue for the official opening of Taghmon-Camross GAA Community Centre on June 17. A full weekend of activities is planned and the highlight is Wexford playing a challenge match.  This will be followed by two ACFL fixtures against Duffry Rovers and Clongeen B. Other activities include a hurling challenge match on Friday evening against Leinster junior champions, Askamore. A souvenir booklet is being produced. Any one who would like to be involved should contact any member of the committee. Many stewards will be needed on the day and much advance preparation needs to be made.

Lotto

The Lotto is now worth £8,600 to a single winner. Tickets are available from usual sources.
