Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 26 March 2001

Football

The ACFL resumed this week and both Taghmon/Camross teams were in action. The first team lost to Clongeen in Clongeen on Saturday afternoon by the minimum 1-7 to 0-9. The team played well in the first half and should have led by more than 0-7 to 0-3 if more opportunities had been taken. Clongeen played better in the second half. The turning point came late in the second half when a fortunate penalty was awarded to Clongeen and converted. A Clongeen forward who was not in danger of getting to the ball dived while substitute full-back Tom O'Gorman's hands were on his back. Best for Taghmon were Dave Foley, Derek Breen and the full back line of Noel Doyle, Trevor McLoughlan and John Kavanagh. Scorers Joe Doyle (0-5, 4 frees), David Foley (0-2), Derek Breen, Darragh Kelly (0-1).

On Sunday the second team defeated Bannow-Ballymitty in Taghmon by 2-5 to 0-5 (HT 2-3 to 0-3). The game was effectively over as a contest within 10 minutes of the start after 2 well taken goals by Michael Barron. Points were exchanged for the rest of the game and more would have been scored if marksmanship were better. The scorers were Michael Barron (2-0), Mick Carty, Joe Doyle, Darragh Kelly, Dave Bury and Jaimie O'Hanlon (0-1). For Bannow-Ballymitty Shane Murphy (0-3, frees), Shane Rossiter and Leigh O'Connor (0-1).
