Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 12 November 2001
The Rackard League combination of Taghmon and Caroreigh National Schools lost the Rackard League final to Rosslare on Saturday afternoon in Bellefield by 1-14 to 2-8. It was an excellent game of football and two late goals by Padraig O’Gorman including a screecher to the roof of the net from a 25 yard free gave hope but it was not to be.
Taghmon/Camross played Bannow/Ballymitty in Grantstown in the final round of matches in ACHL 2C on Sunday morning and won by 2-13 to 2-5 (HT 0-2 to 1-5). Cobwebs were evident in the first half as the lads had not hurled in a while and trailed by 6 points at half-time. The second half was much better the highlight being an excellent goal from Eoin Lacey. The scorers were Dave Bury (1 (pen)-6 (3 frees)), Eoin Lacey (1-1 (free)) Martin Coady (0-2), Nicky Cousins (0-2), David Morrissey (0-1), Tom O’Gorman (0-1). The team again plays Clongeen in the final. In last year’s final of ACHL 2D, Taghmon/Camross lost to Clongeen when a perfectly good goal in the last minute was controversially disallowed.
The ACFL 2B final against Ballymitty is this Saturday at 2 pm in Clongeen.
Celebrations of the footballers great win in the intermediate final are being taken to all parts of the parish. On Saturday the celebration was in the most northerly hostelry in the parish, Rochford’s of Camross. Pat O’Callaghan read Des Waters epic poem regaling in vivid detail the events of October 27. The celebration continues this Friday night in the most southerly pub in the parish, Breen’s of the Dirr.
