Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 1 October 2001
The intermediate football team reached the county final with a splendid 1-8 to 0-8 victory over Craanford in Belfield on Saturday (HT 1-2 to 0-7). The pattern of the match was similar to the quarter-final victory. Taghmon started well against the wind and scored the first 2 points. Then Craanford got to grips with the conditions and built up a 5 point lead. However, late in the half Derek Breen scored a major at the best time to ensure that Taghmon went in only 2 points down with the advantage of the wind to come. Craanford were limited to one point in the second half. The margin would have been greater if shooting had been more accurate. It was the best performance for a while, but there is still room for improvement before the final. The scorers were Derek Breen (1-1), Jason McLoughlan (0-4, 1 free), Lloyd Colfer (0-2), Bernard O’Gorman (0-1).
The clubs hurling teams are all out of the championships now after the U-21’s lost to Rathgarogue-Cushinstown in Grantstown on Sunday by 3-8 to 2-5 (HT 2-6 to 0-1). Cushinstown made better of the conditions with the wind and against the wind. The absence of several first choice players limited Taghmon. The scorers were Eoin Lacey (1-1, frees), Jason Delaney (1-0), Adrian Morrissey (0-2, 1 65), Shane Coady (0-1).
