Helsinki Edition About Us |
Editorial What exactly is The New Euroreporter? We have asked ourselves this question when we started the production of this fourth edition, written in Helsinki Finland, October 1998. To start with there were quite a lot of critics on the last edition of the paper, produced in Preston, United Kingdom, March of this year. We were accused of using too controversial quotes, which resulted in a full page of 'Letters to the Editor', which you will find in the back of this paper. We were also attacked on things like photos and layout. After hearing these complaints from our readers, we have given much thought to changes in every way we were able. We would like to introduce this edition to you as a 'Qualoid': a high quality, tabloid newsmagazine for young journalists. To start with we have chosen a frontpage story about ethics. This because we think it is important for a tabloid like the New Euroreporter to be an opinion-forming paper for anybody interested in journalism and media. We have also established a new layout for the paper, which will hopefully make it more interesting to read. And last but not least: although we had enough good material to fill 24 pages, there were quite a few stories that were too long and for that reason had to be shortend down. We have updated the Internet version of the paper, containing those full length stories we didn't have room for in the printed version. The Internet version can be accessed at: www.jmk.su.se/euroreporter During the two weeks we worked on the paper, different journalism students from eight different European countries have learned what it is to integrate different traditions into one paper. Each country has its own history on making papers. For that reason the New Euroreporter is all about integrating, integrating European journalism that is. Learning about Europe brought up some good material that can be read on the special Europe pages in this paper. The next issue of The New Euroreporter will be made in Stockholm, Sweden in January 1999. Starting in the year 2000 the paper will be produced four times a year. The students from each school will participate in a rolling programme of four issues.
