Review of The Frames at Vicar Street, 31st March
The weekend of the launch of "For the Birds",
By Philip Cox

So the album came out and everyone rushed to Road Records to get it, everyone listened to it loads of times to see how close to the live experience it was. Answers on a postcard to www.sneekypeeky.com.for some strange reason we were all packed into the bar in Vicar Street and let me tell you it was hot, I'm not alone in saying that I dripped considerably more than I would have liked.
We got in and Damien Rice jumped on stage, the song he opened with knocks me out…….haven't got a clue what its called but anyone that can sing about their gamete disease before breaking into French can't be bad. As it turned out Damien was outstanding and should be punished for being so good. He brought on a mini-band that included a  string section of one, they were bloody good.
Mic came up and played his acoustic little heart out……….by god the man has some voice. I won't dwell to much on Mic cause the boy is consistency great, he plays with great confidence and composure and is always a safe bet for a good night of music……..
Mundy was next up and I must admit he didn't hit the dizzy heights set by Damien and Mic. He was very subdued and didn't really get anyone going nuts. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, its what he does, I'm not saying he was poor cause he wasn't, he is a great song writer and musician I just think he lacks that charisma that is important if you want to entertain the crowd. Anyway he knocked out the tunes that made a name for him Gin and Tonic Sky sticks out in my mind cause of all the fiddly little guitar runs….very impressive.
By the time the Frames came on stage I was twatted drunk….this always happens and I'm starting to think that the drink may well be a major factor in my glowing endearments anytime I see them live. So they played away all the usual numbers dropping in Fighting on the Stairs and the fantastic Santa Maria. Glen cracked some jokes told some stories and they all had fun
This was one of the best gigs I've saw in ages, I think the gents on stage were really chuffed about packing  The Olympia  the night before. The energy obviously carried on to Vicar Street.. …...
