Hailing from Sligo, The Hooks are undoubtedly one of the most exciting live bands in Ireland at the moment. Regularly packing out The Garavogue and McGarrigles in their native Sligo, they have also played to full houses in Dublin's Ambassador and Olympia and Belfast's Limelight, while supporting Shane McGowan & The Popes.
The band, comprising of brothers Keith and Ronan Mulligan (Guitars and Vocals), Bassist David Mullen, and Drummer Enda McGoldrick, have in the last year reached the finals of the 2003 IMRO Showcase, and the 2003 O2 New Band Competition, and have twice been Demo of The Fortnight in Jackie Hayden's Column in Hot Press, also winning Song of The Fortnight with "All Across The World" in 2003.
As a result of this appearance, combined with their triumphant 2FM session recently, the band are garnering quite a lot of record company interest, both from the majors and the independents, and are sure to be signing on the dotted line at some stage soon.
In the meantime, they are currently working on the release of a limited edition self-released EP, containing the cream of their recording sessions so far, which is aimed for release next September.
The Sligo Weekender describes them as "Sligo's finest live original band at the moment"
Whilst Hot Press described
their June performance in The Village as "Watertight, rising to the
challenge of maintaining the momentum"
