A Little bit of History

The most famous resident of Clare Island was Grace O'Malley, the famous Granuaile, was a contemporary of Queen Elizabeth I of England whose displeasure she incurred on a number of occasions because of her acts of piracy. Terra marique potens - O'Malley powerful on land and sea.

The whole island was sold to the Conjested Districts Board for £5,486 in 1895.
