"WARSHIPS SHELLED" The German news agency said last night : "German coastal batteries at Cape Grisnez at around four o'clock this afternoon shelled a formation of British warships approaching the French coast". "The small one-funneled British vessels then put up a smoke screen and vanished on a westerly course." |
"RUMORS IN SWEDEN" An official German radio spokesman on the Deutschlandsender network denied that Germany is seeking a separate peace with Russia. "Rumors are spreading in Sweden that Germany wants a separate peace with Russia" he said. "Needless to say, the German Government will never compromise with Soviet Russia." |
"RUSSIANS PUSH INTO UKRAINE" The capture of 30 more places in the Kharkov area and advances of more than five and eight miles are reported in tonight's Soviet Communiqué, as the Red Army ring draws closer round the city. The fortnight old offensive; held up for days by desperate German counter attacks has reached its greatest momentum since Byelgorod fell to the Russians. |
