Sneem 1-05 St. Mary's 0-13

St. Mary's finally showed what they were made of when they recorded their first 2 points in division 1 of the County League in a very wet Sneem pitch on Saturday evening last. Despite an average first half from the Mary's their second half display was something to stand back and admire when they kicked 7 wonderful points to Sneem's   1-1.

It looked like it was going to be a one sided game from the throw in when within the space of seconds Sneem's full forward Ronan Hussey hit the crossbar but this one sided contest was not to be as in reply to Sneem hitting the crossbar Bryan Sheehan kicked the first of his 3 points. From Mark Drummonds kick out Sneem were back on the attack as Jimmy O'Brien danced a round St. Mary's corner back John M Clifford to level the game for the home side. After 4 minutes St. Mary's edged ahead again when Mark O'Sé supplied a great ball to Adam Quirke who pointed but the Mary's lead only lasted a matter of seconds when David Drummond levelled the game for Sneem at 2 points a piece. On the stroke of the tenth minute wing back John Alan O'Sullivan kicked a sublime point which was created by Austin Constable and Steven Curran. St. Mary's then added further points after 14th and 16th minutes from Bryan Sheehan and Austin Constable respectively. Two bad defensive errors from the Mary's then led to points from Micheal Galvin and Jimmy O'Brien for Sneem. Although Sneem had brought the winning margin back to two points St. Mary's were to have the last say of the first half when Austin Constable kicked a point just before referee Micheal Murphy blew the half time whistle to leave the score board displaying Sneem 0-04 St. Mary's 0-06.

After 2 minutes of play in the second half Austin Constable judged the wind perfectly to kick over a 21 yard free for the Mary's but 3 minutes later Ronan Hussey reinacted Austin Constables free kick when he judged the wind and kicked over a 21yard free but from the other end of the field. After 43 minutes of football Bryan Sheehan took a quick free to Daniel O'Sullivan in which he pointed to give the Mary's a 3 point advantage. Then St. Mary's young full forward Rory Keating made the most of a free kick from Bryan Sheehan that dropped short when he punched the ball over the bar. St. Mary's added another point from Austin Constable before St. Mary's were put to the pivot of their collar as Sneem's Sean Hussy left St. Mary's goalkeeper Darren Corcoran stunned when he hit the back of the net. At this stage the Mary's lead by a single solitary point but this margin didn't last for long as Austin Constable kicked over yet another 21 yard free. As per the first half St. Mary's were to have the last say in the second half when Bryan Sheehan kicked over a magnificent 40 yard free against the wind from the left hand side of the pitch. After being beaten in his goal after 51 minutes Darren Corcoran wasn't going to be beaten again when he dived full stretch in the dying moments of the second half to save from Ronan Hussey to leave the score at the end of the game Sneem 1-05 St. Mary's 0-13. Overall St. Mary's showed spirit in their display and especially when Sneem ran out of gas in the second half and great displays were seen from Bryan Sheehan, Rory Keating, John Alan O'Sullivan, Mark O'Sé and Austin Constable.
