County Minor Football League Division 6 Final

 St. Mary's 0-08 Lispole 2-09

Killorglin 20th May @ 8:00

Lispole claimed the County Minor League Division 6 title over St. Mary’s in Killorglin on Friday evening last on a scoreline of 2-9 v 0-8. Lispole dominated proceedings in the first half, this showed when the West Kerry side had 2-5 scored where St. Mary’s could only manage 0-2. The South Kerry side staged somewhat of a comeback in the second half but this didn’t make a significant difference as Lispole cleaned up at midfield.

Lispole got off the best start they could have wished for when a high ball was sent in to the box and found the fist of D Barret who gently tapped the ball down passed Shane Horgan in the Mary’s net. C O’Sullivan added 3 points from frees unanswered from the Mary’s before Paul O’Donoghue finally got his side off the mark with a 40m free. D Barrett got his 2nd goal of the game when he beat the combined marking of Colm Cournane and Conor O’Shea. Lispole were now dominating at the middle of the field and when Cathal O’Connell was sprung from the bench he won the two balls but leaving the field two minutes later with a recurring injury. Lios Póil added two more point before Aidan Walsh saved the Mary’s further embarrassment when he cleared the ball off the line with 2 minutes before the interval. Paul O’Donoghue kicked the last point of the game from a free after a foul on Micheal O’Shea to leave the half time score St. Mary’s 0-2 Lispole 2-5.

St. Mary’s came out a rejuvenated side and Vinny Moriarty had a chance in the 1 minute but the Lispole defence were too strong. C O’Sullivan supplemented his sides score with a 45m free before Vinny Moriarty added a point from play and Paul O’Donoghue 2 from frees. Lisploe brought the score to 2-8 to 0-5 with 2 further points from C O’Sullivan and D Higgins. St. Mary’s finally found the breakthrough in the Lispole defence but when Aidan Walsh squared the ball across to Colm O’Shea he failed to convert, Lispole were kicking some fantastic points throughout but none better than when P McKenna gave a cross field ball to C O’Sullivan and he pointed from most of 45 yards to bring Lispoles advantage to 9 points midway through the half. Paul O’Donoghue added another pointed free after a foul on Vinny Moriarty, before both Sean Cournane and Moriarty had goal chances but were unsuccessful in their efforts. Liam Sheehan added his first point of the game when he capitalized on a poor kick out and when Paul O’Donoghue went on a mazy run up the right flank Moriarty was able to add his 2nd point of the game and the Mary’s final score. Lispole then had C Devane sent off with 2 minutes remaining but C O’Sullivan was still able to add another point from a free to leave the final score in Killorglin, St. Mary’s 0-08 Lispole 2-09.
