County Minor Football League Division 6 Semi-Final St. Mary's 2-10 St. Senans 0-09 Legion 16th May @ 7:30app St. Mary’s Minor qualified for the Co. Minor League Final on Monday evening last when they overcame St. Senans in Direen, Legion. After a delayed throw in the Mary’s took the advantage after 3 minutes with a point from Sean Cournane after a foul on Aidan Walsh, they were then beaten at midfield for one of the seldom times in the match and were punished when the North Kerry side levelled matters. St. Mary’s added two points, from Vincent Moriarty and Sean Cournane both frees while Senans added another point from play to leave the Mary’s ahead by the minimum after 24 minutes. Paul O’Donoghue added his first free from 40m while Sean Cournane and Conor Moran both hit the post in the following minutes, and at the other end some good defending and goalkeeping keep the Mary’s advantage in tact. O’Donoghue had the last say of the first half, after a foul on Danny Murphy, he executed a 45m free to leave the half time score St. Mary’s 0-05 St. Senans 0-02.
In the previous match at the group stages St. Senans defeated the Mary’s but let the Cahersiveen side back into the game in the second half but this wasn’t top be the case for the Mary’s when after 5 minutes of the second half Paul O’Donoghue picked up where he had left off in the first half with a point from play. Senans staged somewhat of a comeback when they scored 4 point unanswered to the Mary’s, but Shane Horgan then denied Senans of taking the advantage 10 minutes in when he pulled off a great save and conceding a point. Vincent Moriarty added his 2nd point of the game and his 20th of the season from 30m’s before a good run up the centre of the field from Mark McGillicuddy lead to a good passing movement involving Brian Curran, Aidan Walsh, Danny Murphy and finishing off with a point from Sean Cournane. Cournane was involved again when the turning point of the game came with Conor Moran being put through on goal and he buried it passed the onrushing Senans keeper to bring the score to 1-8 to 0-7. Senans added 2 final points before the Mary’s finished in style when Sean Cournane added 1-2 to bring his tally for the night to 1-5. This left the final score in Legion St. Mary’s 2-10 St. Senans 0-09.
St. Mary’s will now progress to the final on the following Friday night in Killorglin against Lispole who earlier on the year in the group stages they beat 3-11 v 1-11. St. Mary’s would like to thank all the supporters who travelled and will look forward to their support in the final.
