South Kerry Championship 1st Round Sneem 0-04 St. Mary's 1-09 Sneem 27th November @ 2:00 St. Mary's sent out a very strong message to the rest of South Kerry when they beat Sneem away in style. After a shaky first half, but still lead at half time, St. Mary's turned on the heat and finished the game ten minutes into the second half when corner forward Rory Keating scrambled the ball pass Mark Drummond. Sneem couldn't do nothing to stop the visitors and threw everything at the Mary's but were reduced to 14 men soon after the restart when captain Sean Hussey was sent off after a nasty challenge on Paul Mahony. St. Mary's preformed in every part of the field and it showed on the score board as they kept Sneem to scoring only one point in the second half while producing 1-4 themselves on heavy underfoot conditions. The Mary's started much the brighter when Liam Corcoran was fouled in the throw in and Bryan Sheehan took a quick free to find Maurice Fitzgerald who produced the first point of the game. It took 13 minutes a lots of hard hitting to find the next score when Mike Hussey kicked a good point from the left hand side of the pitch, then a moment of magic from Kerry senior member Bryan Sheehan when he received the ball in his own half and ran 50 yards dodging tackles and finally easily slipping the ball between the posts to give a 2 point to 1 advantage to his side. The momentum of play was then slowed down and Sneem capitalized to kicked two points in succession first a point from a free by Ronan Hussey in front of goal and then a point from Micháel Galvin from the right. Then Rory Keating found himself in space but only to be fouled and Bryan Sheehan clocked up the second of his five points. The final 7 minutes saw St. Mary's dominating the play when Austin Constable kicked a magnificent point from 30 yards and then the Mary's captain made Sneem goalkeeper Drummond produce a great save from point blank range. Sheehan had the final say of the half when he kicked over the resulting 45 to give the Mary's a 2 point advantage going in a the break. Sneem 0-3 St. Mary's 0-5. Tempers flared 3 minutes after the throw in when 'Underdog' and Sneem captain Sean Hussey unfairly challenged Paul Mahony and received the red card from Rathmore referee Johnny Cahill. St. Mary's were now playing some immense football and it showed 7 minutes in when Maurice Fitzgerald switched play from the left to the right and found Ray Keane in acres of space who pointed to give his side a 3 point advantage. With the reigning champions piling on the pressure it was only time until the right ball found Rory Keating who would finish it off and Austin Constable was the man to do so when he found Keating who put the ball pass Drummond but it stopped on the line however Rory stayed on his feet and made sure of it when he buried the ball to the corner of the net. Bryan Sheehan pointed another free after Keating begin fouled again but then Ronan Hussey was to get Sneem's only point of the second half with 8 minutes remaining. St. Mary's held up the ball in the dying moments but then Captain Constable put the icing on the cake with a great point on his left leg to finish the game at Sneem 0-4 St. Mary's 1-9. Overall St. Mary's showed spirit in their display and look like it would take an exceptional team in South Kerry to beat them especially with the displays from Bryan Sheehan, Rory Keating, John Alan O'Sullivan, Mark O'Sé, Steven Curran, Gearoid Driscoll, Paul Mahony, Ray Keane, James Fitzgerald and Austin Constable.
