South Kerry Senior League Sneem 1-14 St. Mary's 0-08 Sneem 6th March @ 4:00 St Mary's South Kerry League campaign 2004 has come to an early end as result of their defeat by Sneem. Sneem who hadn't won a game yet in the South Kerry League dominated the game from start to finish. It looked like the Mary's were still in with a chance at the final whistle for a playoff but when the score from Renard came that Renard had beaten Portmagee it ruled the Mary's out. St. Mary's, who lined out today for the first time this year with more than one sub, struggled from the start when after only a minute were a point down. Daniel O'Sullivan pull one back for the county league champions but Sneem then added 4 more points which had the game on a score line of 5points to 1. After 20 minutes the Mary's added only their second point from a free kick from Bryan Sheehan from 20 yards, who was playing his first game for the club this year along with Ray Keane, John Alan O'Sullivan, Mark O'Sé and Gearoid O'Driscoll. Ronan Hussey who played an outstanding game kicked a point from close range but was cancelled out by a free kick from Austin Constable 2 minutes later. The Mary's were finally putting a few passes together and were playing well which resulted in a great cross field ball from Bryan Sheehan to Austin Constable in which he pointed. This left the half time score line at 0-4 to 0-7 in favour of Sneem. St. Mary's once again had another bad start and again conceded a point within a minute. This ten minutes proved to be the worst ten minutes for a long time for the Mary's when Sneem struck again but this time it went under the bar and in which goalie Darren Corcoran could do nothing about. Sneem then added another point and after 40 minutes left the score line at 1-9 to 4 points. The Mary's then make a decisive substitution when they brought on young Kerry Minor Panellist and Colaisté Ná Sceilge Goalkeeper Liam Sheehan. Liam's first kick of the ball was a long cross field ball into the hands of Niall O Driscoll in which he narrowly hit wide. Liam's brother Bryan then showed his class when he kicked a 50 yard free to pull one back for the Mary's. Bryan then recreated his free kick but this time from open play he pointed. Inside the final ten minutes Sneem pointed twice while Ray Keane and Liam Sheehan also pointed for the visitors. After a poor performance from the Mary's they can take one good aspect from the game, Liam Sheehan who plated a fantastic game was making only his second display in the senior jersey his other appearance coming against Dingle in Dingle. As this was probably the seniors last game before the County League begins in three weeks time with a tough away game against Dr. Crokes it will be down to hard training for the next three weeks.
