Report on U16 B final (November 23rd)

With a shower dampening proceedings, St Mary's established an early lead of two pts to nil due to the accuracy of Vincent Moriarty. However Muiris O'Sullivan drew level for the islanders at 2 points each. The half time score stood at 4 pts each, three of the points coming from Muiris O'Sullivan and one for Alan Curran for Valentia and St. Mary's third piont came from Sean Cournane. Alan Curran, Muris O Sullivan and defender Dylan Orpen were Valentia's most prominent of that half while Vincent Moriarty at midfield and Sean Cournane done it for the boys in blue. On the resumption Mark Lynch gave Valentia the lead for the first time, with a pointed free. This half also saw midfielder, Ryan Walsh of Valentia go into goal in a direct inter change with goalie Brian O'Connor. Muiris O'Sullivan now playing well added three more points, bringing his total to six, leaving the score 8 pts to 5. Was the first silverware of the GAA year for Valentia about to arrive? Alas these proved to be Valentia's last scores, as a rampant and physically stronger St. Mary's added two more goals from Sean Cournane and Liam Sheehan and three points from Brian Curran and Vincent Mortiary to win on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-8. Overall St. Mary's Liam Sheehan in the forwards ,Brian Curran in the backs and Vincent Moriarty in midfield really made the difference. Afterwards, Patrick O'Donoghue of Valentia, treasurer of S Kerry Bord Na Nog GAA presented the Damien Fogarty Memorial Cup to the St Mary's captain, Vincent Moriarty.
