County U-12 League Valentia/Skellig Rangers 3-05 St. Mary’s 5-11

 St. Mary’s U-12’s kept their unbeaten run going with a 2/2 winning record after comfortably over coming the combined powers of Valentia/Portmagee. The Mary’s got off to a flyer when after on a few minutes on the clock William Hickey, who added a goal of his own soon on, sent a high ball into full forward Jonathan Coffey who promptly goaled. Points were then added from Gavin Moran, Gaberial Dennehy and Kieran Driscoll, but when a Kieran Driscoll 45 dropped short Conor O’Shea pounced on the opportunity and goaled. With scores coming from all angles the half time score was 3-6 to 0-2 in favour of the Mary’s. The visiting management then changed the face of their team in the second half and with this brought a few emerging young stars, with the likes of Ronan McCarthy, Liam Stapleton, and Jack O’Connor all getting on the score sheet. Other players to score were Denis Daly, a goal from nearly half way, Sean O’Shea and Megan O’Connell. The game also saw the introduction of young Mark Quigley who made his debut for the St. Mary’s U-12’s at the age of 7, Mark is a former Valentia player and was playing against friends and foes on the day. U12 County Football League Round 1, St. Mary’s 3-06 vs Templenoe 2-06 in Cahersiveen.

St. Mary’s overcame the first hurdle that came in their way of the season when they put in a gallant performance to defeat Templenoe by a single goal. In a cracking game in Con Keating Park, watched by a good sized crowd, the home side lead by the minimum at the break, but when the management of Peter Murphy, Denis Daly, Tim Shea and Paul Moran introduced substitute Jonathan Coffey, he made an immediate impact with a goal after the interval to extend the lead. St. Mary’s eventually got the better of the travelling side with dominance in the key areas, in the backs Gaberial Dennehy, Nikita Pugochouv, and Denis Daly, midfield Kieran O’Driscoll and Megan O’Connell while in the forwards Conor O’Shea (Boherbue), William Hickey and Jonathan Coffey done the job. sUNDAY 22ND May at cAHERSIVEEN. U12 County Football League GROUP G RD 4. ST. MARY’S 4-14 GLENBEIGH/GLENCAR 0-04. 

St. Mary’s U12’s showed their class when they comfortably beat the combined Mid Kerry side Glenbeigh/Glencar in Cahersiveen on Sunday evening in front of a somewhat large attendance. St. Mary’s got off to a fantastic start when inside the first 10 minutes the home side had 2-4 racked up thanks to William Hickey 2-0 and Ronan McCarthy 0-3. Glenbeigh/Glencar had a minute where they took control and added 2 points and were unlucky to hit the crossbar. Further points were added for the Mary’s with the wind before half time thanks to Liam Stapleton, Ronan McCarthy and William Hickey. Half Time: St. Mary’s 2-10 Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-3. St. Mary’s started the same way they finished when Ronan McCarthy and William Hickey were once again on target with points each. The man from Belarus then got his name on the score sheet, Nikita Pugchouv, with 3 points from play. St. Mary’s kept the pressure on their lead and scores in the dying minutes came with goals from Ronan McCarthy and Conor O’Shea, while points were added from William Hickey. St. Mary’s played very well throughout the game and were a class above the visitors, this was to be the Mary’s last game in this group after winning 4 and losing 1 the teams will be reseeding according to their strength.

5TH JUNE 2005 - COUNTY U-12 FOOTBALL LEAGUE ROUND 1 IN LISTOWEL
LISTOWEL EMMETTS 2-10 ST. MARY’S 3-07

After a fantastic game of football seen in Listowel on Sunday last both St. Mary’s and Listowel Emmetts got the results they deserved in the form of a draw. The half time score saw the Mary’s leading a goal, but the home side quickly got back into the game with 2 quick goals. In a nail biting finish St. Mary’s ended up coming from behind to salvage a piont. St. Mary’s Team: Ml O’Shea, Gaberial Dennehy, Denis Daly, Killian Nolan, Sean O’Shea, Nikita Pugochouv, Conor Daly, Megan O’Connell, Cathal Keating, Conor O’Shea (Boherbue), William Hickey, Gavin Moran, Aidan O’Connor, Conor O’Shea (Rocky Road) and Ronan McCarthy. 13TH JUNE 2005 - COUNTY U-12 FOOTBALL LEAGUE ROUND 2 IN CAHERSIVEEN
ST. MARYS 3-05 BALLYHEIGUE 2-08

St. Mary’s picked up a point from a game in which looked as good as over with 10 minutes to go until a late brace of goals from William Hickey salvaged a point for the home side. After travelling a long distance the North Kerry side proved to be the quickest out of the blocks with two early points. Ronan McCarthy then pointed in which proved to be the only point St. Mary’s were going to get in the first half while Ballyheigue went on to score 3 more to round off the first half proceeding with St. Mary’s 0-1 Ballyheigue 0-5. William Hickey quickly got the Mary’s within a point of the leaders after the throw in but this was cancelled out a minute later when the visitors scored two in the space of 3 minutes to leave 7 between the sides. A point from Sean O’Shea and two from Gavin Moran brought respectablility back but Hickey and Denis Daly then went one step further with 5 minutes remaining where William Hickey pulled a goal back, then in the dying minutes Daly pointed and when a long ball was sent in towards the full forward line, Hickey was first to react with a goal to earn a fital point for the home side. This now leaves St. Mary’s with 2 points from 2 games. 25th June - County U12 15-a-side League Round 4 St. Mary’s v Kenmare in Cahersiveen.

St. Mary’s U12’s received their second defeat of the year and their second defeat from Kenmare in the County League on Saturday morning last in Cahersiveen. St. Mary’s started the brighter but this didn’t last long when Kenmare pointed after 4 minutes and continued scoring with 1-4 unanswered before finally Jonathan Coffey broke the scoring spree, but to no avail as the visitors pointed before the break to bring the half time score to St. Mary’s 0-1 Kenmare 1-5. The second half started the same as the first with two Kenmare points before Liam Stapleton finally got the home side into the game when a 45 dropped short into the goal, Conor O’Shea Rocky Road brought the margin back to 4 points with 20 minutes remaining thanks to a goal from close range. Kenmare up their game and punished the Mary’s mistakes which were at large with 2-1 in ten minutes. Conor O’Shea Boherbue then rounded off the scoring with a point to leave the final score at Con Keating Park St. Mary’s 2-2 Kenmare 3-09. 22nd June - South Kerry U12 9-a-side Championship Round 3 St. Mary’s v Skellig Rangers in Cahersiveen.

St. Mary’s U12’s comfortably overcame a Skellig Rangers outfit on Wednesday evening last in Cahersiveen in the South Kerry 9-a-side championship. St. Mary’s started much the stronger and never let their guard down through out the game, Gavin Moran opened the games scoring account inside the first minute while Daragh Stack followed in suite with a point. Conor O’Shea (Boherbue) got the first of seven goals scored throughout the game and his first of two after 6 minutes. Daragh Stack and Sean O’Shea added points before Stack marked up the home side’s second goal after being put through by Gavin Moran. St. Mary’s defence of Gaberial Dennehy, Denis Daly and Nikita Pugochouv held firm while the Mary’s offence continued dominating the scoring. Half Time: St. Mary’s 2-10 Skellig Rangers 0-04. Conor O’Shea added his second goal after two minutes of the second half while Daragh Stack, Conor O’Shea, Sean O’Shea and Cathal Keating all added points before Skellig Rangers scored the first of their two goals in the game. Substitute Ronan McCarthy then had a part to play in two St. Mary’s goal scored in the space of two minutes the first a free that dropped short to the awaiting Daragh Stack to round off his scoring of the day to 2-6 and then a one two between McCarthy and Sean O’Shea rounded off his scoring to 1-5 from his midfield position. Points in the final minutes were added by Gavin Moran and Ronan McCarthy to leave the final score at Con Keating Park St. Mary’s 5-17 Skellig Rangers 2-5. 15/07/05- South Kerry U-12 Football League in Con Keating Park Cahersiveen. St. Mary’s 11-15 Filemore 6-01


After getting a fright in the first quarter of the game St. Mary’s U12’s prevailed in the end to kill off the challenge of rivals Filemore for the second time in 2 days, the other victory coming on Wednesday in the minors. In a game of goals, it was Sean Sullivan that got the scoreboard working with a goal after 4 minutes to give the visitors the lead, but this was short lived when Liam Stapleton got his first of his two goals. In the next 5 minutes Gavin Moran got 1-2 while the two midfielders Megan O’Connell and Kieran O’Driscoll chipped in with a point each before Filemore added two more goals from Darren O’Sullivan, Filemores main target man, and James O’Shea to bring the score to 2-3 v 3-0. This was to be the last time that the two sides were close to each other on the scoreboard as William Hickey distanced the margin with two goals in the space of a minute while Denis Daly 1-2 and Gavin Moran’s 0-1 brought the half time score to St. Mary’s 7-5 Filemore 4-1. The second half began where the first left off when Denis Daly 2-2, William Hickey 0-1, Liam Stapleton 1-2, Jonathan Coffey 0-1, Daragh Stack 0-1 and Sean O’Shea a goal and 3 punched points all supplemented the Mary’s score before Darren O’Sullivan salvaged a goal in the dying minutes for Filemore to leave the final score St. Mary’s 11-15, 6-01.

21/07/05 - South Kerry U-12 League Round 7 St. Mary’s 3-14 v 2-03 Waterville @ Cahersiveen.

St. Mary’s U12’s retained their unbeaten South Kerry record when they comfortably overcame Waterville by 14 points in Cahersiveen on Thursday evening last. The visitors opened the scoring inside the first two minutes but when the Mary’s found the target scores were easy to come by with Gavin Moran (2) and William Hickey (2) adding 4 points between them before Waterville pulled away with a goal and a point after 9 minutes. This was to be the closest Waterville were going to get to victory in the game as William Hickey 0-1, Conor O’Shea 0-2, Liam Stapleton 0-1 and Megan O’Connell chipped in with 3 punched points before the break to settle to half time score at St. Mary’s 1-10 Waterville 1-02. Waterville opened the second half the brighter when they goaled second time of asking after Conor O’Shea (filling in for the injured Micheal O’Shea) pulled off a fine save firstly. Captain Kieran O’Driscoll equalled two minutes later when he came out on top after a one on one with the visitors goalie. William Hickey added his 4th and 5th points soon afterwards after Denis Daly and Gavin Moran respectively assisted him. Kieran O’Driscoll and Conor O’Shea (Boherbue) both added points before O’Driscoll rounded off the game with a goal to leave the final score at St. Mary’s 3-14 Waterville 2-03.

29/07/05 - South Kerry U-12 League Round 8 St. Mary’s 0-13 v 3-09 Templenoe @ Cahersiveen.
 

After a quiet week on the GAA front in Cahersiveen, the only game came on Friday night when the U-12’s were pitted against Templenoe. Both teams entered the game unbeaten in the South Kerry League and the winners most likely to finish top of the group. After both teams starting off very evenly it was Templenoe who took the lead before the break with a goal 0-4 v 1-6 @ half time. The home side took control as the second half got underway thanks to some great points from Sean O’Shea, Gabriel Dennehy, William Hickey, Conor O’Shea, Kieran O’Driscoll and Gavin Moran, but when the visitors scored two goals in quick succession the Mary’s lost heart and fell apart to leave the final score St. Mary’s 0-13 Templenoe 3-9. St. Mary’s Team: Conor O’Shea, Daragh Stack, Denis Daly, Sean O’Shea, Megan O’Connell, Kieran O’Driscoll, Gabriel Dennehy, William Hickey, Gavin Moran. Subs: Cathal Keating and Conor O’Shea.


Tuesday 2nd Aug - South Kerry U-12 Group Stage – St. Mary’s v St. Michaels


St. Mary’s U-12’s finished off the South Kerry Championship group stages in style when they comfortably overcame St. Michaels in Ballinskelligs. In the first half saw the visitors clock up 2-12 opposed to 0-2, which included an early goal from William Hickey, a future goal from Daragh Stack and points from Sean O’Shea, Kieran O’Driscoll, Hickey and Stack. The second half saw St. Mary’s drop their guard as the home side added 6 points but as they found the right gear points were added by Daragh Stack, Conor O’Shea (Boherbue), Kieran Driscoll and Ronan McCarthy while Stack added another goal to his tally. Final score from Ballinskelligs St. Mary’s 3-16 St. Michaels 0-08.

Saturday 6th Aug – South Kerry U12 A Semi-Final – St. Mary’s v Skellig Rangers
 

St. Mary’s U12 season took a turn for the worst with only 2 games to play when they were defeated by Skellig Rangers, in the South Kerry A Semi-Final in Dromid on Saturday afternoon last. After taking the lead at the half time break by the minimum Portmagee peaked at the right time in the final quarter. Skellig Rangers took the early advantage and it was 3 points to no score before Daragh Stack opened the scoring with a point for the Mary’
s, this was little clonslation as the opponents clocked up their first of three goals after 10 minutes. St. Mary’s added a few scores to get themselves back into the game, a fantastic goal from Sean O’Shea which was supplemented by a goal from Stack. 2 points from O’Shea and a point from captain Kieran O’Driscoll. Half Time: St. Mary’s 2-4 Skellig Rangers 1-6. As the second half resumed Sean O’Shea added two more long range points while Stack complement his first goal with another. The Rangers quickly produced 3 more fine points with Stack and O’Shea the only Mary’s player who could do anything in terms of retaliating with scores. With St. Mary’s 2 points up and only 5 minutes remaining they dropped their guard and as they did Skellig Rangers pounced and in a short space of time a goal and a point had been score, as the final whistle went St. Mary’s were left to wonder where they went wrong with the final score St. Mary’s 3-8 Skellig Rangers 3-10.
