23/08 South Kerry League V Valentia Home

Reigning South Kerry U16’s Champions had now problem overcoming a very under strength Valentia side last Wednesday in Cahersiveen in their latest South Kerry League match. Along the way the Mary’s racked up a traffic score of 4-26 which was contributed by all 14 players used. St. Mary’s Team & Scorers: Damien Horgan, Steven O’Sullivan, Keith Curran, Ian Casey, DJ Clifford (0-1), Shane Horgan (0-4,2f), Daniel Daly (0-4), Conor Quirke (1-4), Daniel Dennehy (1-3), Rory O’Shea (0-2), Diarmuid Nolan (1-5). Subs: Daragh O’Sullivan, Noel Cournane, Declan Keating (1-3,1f).

14/08 South Kerry League V Dromid Away

The two favourites for the South Kerry U16 League opened in opposition on Monday night last when St. Mary’s made the trip to Dromid Pearses for the opening round. It was the visitors who came away with the spoils after leading at the break by two points 1-7, 1-5 thanks to scores from captain Aidan Walsh, Shane Horgan, a goal from Daniel Daly, Conor Quirke and Declan Keating had the Mary’s poised for victory but the Pearses rallied on hard with their main scoring power being the impressive Niall O’Shea who kicked a tally of 7 points despite being under tight marking by Ian Casey. Aidan Walsh and Niall O’Shea opened the second half scoring, Conor Quirke then had a goal chance but opted for the safe option in a point until 2 minutes later Daniel Daly made up for it with a goal after a good assist from Aidan Walsh. The Pearses didn’t take long to make their comeback when Christopher Farley took full advantage of a mistake in the Mary’s defence to steal a goal while O’Shea added another point 2 minutes later from a 30m free. St. Mary’s however sealed the victory soon after when Colin Walsh firstly pointed a close free and then when he received a pass from Shane Horgan he buried the ball to the back of the net to put his side in front by 6. Points were exchanged in the final minutes between Conor Quirke and Niall O’Shea to leave the final score in Dromid, St. Mary’s 3-12 Dromid Pearses 2-8. 19/07 County League V Sneem/Derrynane Away

The U16’s made the worthy trip to Derrynane last Wednesday evening for the final round of the group stage of the County U16 League and scored victory by whopping 21 points. It took two minutes for the Mary’s to get into their stride when Colin Walsh and Aidan Walsh combined to create Conor Quirkes first point, Quirke added another 3 minutes later while Daniel Daly added another before the combination of Sneem/Derrynane managed their first chance of the evening when Ian Galvin’s long range effort hit the cross bar and when Damien Horgan denied young full forward Hussey a goal chance it resulted in a 45 in which Galvin converted after 6 minutes of play. Daniel Dennehy and Ian Galvin exchanged points  before the Mary’s added 4 points without reply before the break from Colin Walsh (2), Daniel Daly punched point and Shane Horgan a great score from the wing to leave the half time score St. Mary’s 0-8 Sneem/Derrynane 0-2. St. Mary’s began the second half with hard luck with Conor Quirke hitting the crossbar, the post and the goalie inside the opening 5 minutes, while Galvin pointed his own free only to be cancelled out by an Aidan Walsh free. St. Mary’s finally took control of the game when Shane Horgan produced a great run and assisted Daniel Daly for a goal, while  Daly reversed his roll a minute later as he turned provider for Colin Walsh to net and extended his sides advantage to 12 points. Captain Ian Casey added another point for the Mary’s before Jason Moran had a chance for a goal but only to be denied by the crossbar and then the keeper twice before Casey again made up for it a minute later when he force the keeper into a mistake and netted to make it 3-10 to 0-3. Michael O’Connor added a point for the home side before substitute Declan Keating bagged himself 1-2 in the space of two minutes while Daragh O’Sullivan secured the victory with a point and leave the final score St. Mary’s 4-13 Sneem/Derrynane 0-4. On the evening no players could be picked out for an individual performance with all players playing very well. 12/07 County League V Reenard Home

St. Mary’s U16’s were in a class of their own when they scored a magnificent victory over neighbours Renard in the County League last Wednesday evening in a sun drenched Con Keating Park.  The home side scored victory in style and showed why they look likely to be on their way to the County League Division 8 title. The Mary’s managed to keep Renard scoreless in the first half and on their way kicked 2-10 from play, well they this was the only option as the home side went through the game without being awarded a single free. The first half scores came from Colin Walsh 0-1 and Daniel Daly 0-2, a Conor Quirke goal after 4 minutes and an Aidan Walsh goal after 5 minute, further points from Daniel Daly 0-2, Conor Quirke 0-2, Colin Walsh 2 punched points and Diarmuid Nolan 0-1. After making the allowed five subs the most upsetting point of the second half was that the Mary’s conceded two points from close frees both from Daragh Neill. 1-6 was added to the Mary’s first half tally from Daniel Daly 0-2, Conor Quirke 0-1 and Maurice Dwyer 0-1. After 15 minutes of the second half the Mary’s sealed their third goal after a goal keeping blunder and Daragh O’Sullivan was quickest to react to goal prior to another brace of points from Aidan Walsh and Conor Quirke to leave the full time score St. Mary’s 3-16 Renard 0-2. 05/07 County League V Skellig Rangers Away

St. Mary’s U16’s picked up their second win on the trot when they had no problem in disposing of Skellig Rangers in the County U16 League in Portmagee on Wednesday night last. Played in windy conditions, the visitors sailed into an unmatchable lead early on when Shane Horgan racked up 1-1 inside the opening 4 minutes. The Rangers pulled two points back soon after but Aidan Walsh kept the Mary’s out in front with a cracking goal after 8 minutes, goals were available in abundance when a minute later after a goalkeeping blunder Rory O’Shea pounced to slot the ball home to hand the Mary’s an 8 point lead. St. Mary’s never looked back from here when Colin Walsh found form with two points in succession one from a free on the left wing, while Daniel Daly marked his name on the score sheet with a point.  Walsh added three more, two from frees after fouls on Diarmuid Nolan while Aidan Walsh added another with 4 minutes remaining after good support play from Nolan and Walsh. Daniel Daly and Michael O’Sullivan exchanged points before the break to leave the score at St. Mary’s 3-08 Skellig Rangers 0-3. St. Mary’s took their foot off the pedal in the second half but still managed a few early scores from Daniel Daly, Colin Walsh, Aidan Walsh from a 45 and Colm O’Shea while Bernard Casey was the home sides sole scoring saviour with three points from play. With time running out the play got sloppy and scores were a commodity with only Shane Horgan scoring for the Mary’s in the final quarter while his side managed to kick 8 wides in the second half. With a solid performance where the outcome was never in doubt the Mary’s best players were captain Ian Casey, Colm O’Shea, Aidan Walsh and Shane Horgan in midfield, Colin Walsh and Daniel Daly in the half forward line. Final score in Portmagee St. Mary’s 3-13 Skellig Rangers 0-09. 28/06 County League V Valentia Away

St. Mary’s U16’s kicked off their County League campaign in style when they eased to victory over Valentia on Wednesday evening last 2-20 v 0-08. A first half scoreline saw the visitors ahead by 16 points thanks two goals from Colin Walsh and Rory O’Shea while points from Shane Horgan, Jason Moran and Daniel Daly helped the cause. The second half saw more of the same from the Cahersiveen side when they added 8 more points while Valentia could only manage 4. The scores came from Ian Casey, Declan Keating, Diarmuid Nolan, Colin Walsh, Daniel Daly and Shane Horgan while Valentia’s scores came from Calum Smith and Paul O’Sullivan. St. Mary’s were very strong all round with Colm O’Shea and DJ Clifford controlling the backs and Aidan Walsh and Shane Horgan dominating the middle.
