Team Details 1998

After all the excitement the first year, we decided to make an addition to the team - Ivan “Ghetto Superstar” Stuart was introduced to add an outside threat to the team.

The year was 1998, and everyone was very excited at the prospect of being led out onto the court by their new captain Trevor O Donoghue. That year we wrote ourselves into the history books by entering the court at the Final with silver hair and two coaches in black suits and sunglasses. The biggest cheer of the blitz that year was indeed ours!

We shocked the Cordal boys in the final (Division 3 Men: Trainspotters 20 Cordal 16) and Kevin Lynch was named as MVP. They even initiated a new award for the best-dressed coaches, which belonged to Mick and Snuffy.

Also that year, two of the Trainspotters' greatest groupies won MVP awards. In Division Two Ladies Nora Buckley, despite losing the final, put on an almost flawless display throughout, and in the Senior Men division, Frank O'Rahilly secured the award after sleeping with most, if not all, of the judging committee.

That night out was definitely one to be remembered, even though I’m fairly sure not a lot of us do! The trophy was placed in the centre of the dancefloor and danced around by several men in dark sunglasses. As you can imagine, copious amounts of alcohol were consumed in the process!
