Sunday August 10th 1960:

Tour of Fingal

P. Schweppe A Clear Winner

Peter Schweppe (Tailteann C.C.) finished a a clear five minutes ahead of his nearest rival, Tom Gallagher (Antlers) to win the Loraine C.C.'s 80 mile massed start Tour of Fingal from a field of 27 riders.
Tailteann also won the team award. The winner and his clubmates, Phil Molloy and John Lackey , totalled 31 points.
Starting from Santry Stadium the route took in Swords, Balrothery, Balbriggan, Gormanstown, Naul, Ballymun (2 laps). After about 23 miles had been covered in the hour a four man break took place when Schweppe, Ian Gallagher,Tom Duggan(IRC) and P. Plunkett (IRC) sprinted ahead.

 

The prime at Naul - the half-way stage was won by Schweppe from the four man breakaway. Schweppe then slowly drew away from the leading group and finished the last 26 miles (approx) alone.
