The Sonny Cullen memorial 36 mile CP - Batterstown 22/9/02

On a calm dry morning in Batterstown over 70 riders signed on for the annual Sonny Cullen CP. This event is promoted by the Obelisk Wheelers and sponsored by Lally and White Decorators.

Four groups started in Batterstown and headed out for 3 laps around the Drumree circuit. A small group with Jimmy Lally and Se Weston among others broke away from the scratch group, when my group ( group 2 ) was caught at the start of the third lap the third group had been caught and passed by this breakaway scratch group. A number of group 2 riders managed to hang on through Drumree and over to Dunsany.

Myself and a few others tailed off at the Grange cross and couldn't stay with the main scratch group when they went by. Group 1 had been passed by now and it looked as if it might go down to a sprint finish.
