The Problem of Time Travel
Light Speed
The main drawback with time travel is that no object with mass can travel at or near the speed of light. The reason for this is simple, the faster an object
travels, the heavier it gets. The rocket in the picture below shows this point clearly.
The rocket is trying to travel at the speed of light. It weighs 1000 Kilograms. At half power it can make 1000 Kilograms of rocket travel at half the speed of
light. Logic suggests that at full power it should reach the speed of light with no problems. This is not true as the faster it travels the heavier it gets. So above
half the speed of light the rocket doubles in weight so more power is needed to make it go faster. When it approaches the speed of light it weights over twice
as much so it needs double the power just to stay going, leaving none left to break the light barrier. When an object reaches the speed of light its mass
becomes infinite so the power required to reach the speed of light is infinite. So thus, the light barrier cannot be crossed by anything with mass.
