Last December, we went for a school trip to the Dunbrody Famine Ship in New Ross, which is about fifteen miles from our school. This ship is presently being constructed the same as the original Famine Ship. My Mother works on the construction site, as a tour guide and she brought us all around the ship and told us many interesting things. The original ship was built in Quebec, Canada in 1845 by an Irish immigrant, called Thomas Hamilton Oliver. She was commissioned by the Graves family in New Ross Co. Wexford as a cargo ship and she carried passengers from New Ross to America during the famine in Ireland. The replica of the "Dunbrody" ship, which is being built in New Ross will help create tourism for the town. The project is costing around four million pounds. The main sponsors are Bord Failte, Coilte, Fas and local businesses.

We really enjoyed the tour to Dunbrody Famine Ship. We thought it was very interesting.
