GAETANO TRANCHINO was born on 22-1-1938 in Siracusa, Sicily where he still lives and works. Having completed his classical studies he then attended the faculty of letters and architecture at the University of Rome at Catania. A student of Riccardo Manzi, he held his first solo exhibition in Milan at the Galleria Toninelli in 1964. A close friend of the late Leonardo Sciascia, he has exhibited and taken part in group shows throughout Europe and North America, and has been the subject of numerous articles and essays by the great Sicilian writer as well as by many others.
