Dangerously similar
to Resident Evil?
Umm, yeah.
But do you get PSYCHIC POWERS in Resident Evil games?
Actually, no.
Okay. So you're Aya Brea, the strange psychic bounty hunter/government agent
chick.
(In a rather groovy touch, Aya is half Japanese, and her design reflects this)
Mitochondria?
Right. Mitochondria. Parasites that can give you powers, or turn you into a
dangerous terrifying freak with a scary laugh.
Aya is fortunately an example of the former, and she is hunting the latter.
Settings are great, you start in a skyscraper in L.A. , and wander out to the
Mojave desert, and various other sun and sand locations.

Quite addictive, but quite hard, Parasite
Eve II is a whole lot of fun, and the mix of psychic powers and a dazzling
array of weaponry makes the whole thing a refreshing change from usual
survival gaming fare.
The combat system is fantastic too, with a separate combat mode, where you can
only use things you have had the foresight to place in your pockets! Makes the
experience a little more exciting, and... I won't say realistic.
I'm a twenty three year old male with erratic shaving habits, and
there's nothing realistic about me being a blonde half Japanese killing
machine with psychic powers in a short skirt, blowing apart a fat creature
with a flamethrower lodged in its thorax. (Oh. Right. Well, I suppose we have
the skirt in common, but that is IT.)
The game is relatively free flowing, with a little of the
backtracking that gets tiresome in its counterpart Resident Evil games, but
there is an element of independence, for instance there are two endings, based
on which of two characters you meet in the game you lean towards.
I thought this was a nice touch, as you are never confronted with the choice,
the game moves on based on how you play this angle.
Overall a solid recommendation, go and play it.
(and don't blame me if the freaky scary baby noises keep you awake at night)
Coffee Factor:
well, v. v. long loading times make for handy sipping moments.
backtracking sequences allow for that
one-hand-controlling-the-controller-and-one-
hand-controlling-the-coffee-cup
type vibe.
Chick dig it?
nope. not really, i'm afraid. yes, there is a chick in it, but she is
wearing an incredibly short skirt, and has a shower scene in one of the FMV's.
this appeals less to girls than to boys.
sorry.
