What to do in Trim

The medieval town of Trim is steeped in history.  You can touch and explore ancient and visible reminders of thousands of years of heritage.  King John's Castle, the largest Norman castle in Ireland - featured in the film Braveheart - is located on the banks of the historic River Boyne.  It is truly a majestic sight in the centre of this pretty town.  The extensive and colourful history of Trim includes crusading knights, famous authors, dukes and saints - Dean Swift and the Duke of Wellington both have links with the town and it was here St Patrick erected one of the first Christian churches on Irish soil.

Butterstream Gardens lie less than a mile from the town centre.  They are beautiful gardens with such a world wide reputation that the Prince of Wales made a special detour to visit while recently in Ireland.

If your interests lie with more modern pursuits, there is a selection of excellent golf courses all within easy reach.  These include the superb Trim Golf Club 18-hole golf course, located just three miles from town.  Both the Royal Tara Golf Club, which offers 27-holes, and Headfort Golf Club, offering 18-holes are within easy striking distance.

There's also an abundance of fishing available locally on the banks of the River Boyne and its tributaries.

Ted's Eclectic Lot situated in Haggard Street behind us have a unique display of Teddy Bears that are collectors lots.  They are well worth a visit.

Trim boasts some fine eating establishments two of which are within walking distance from our Guest House.  Francini O'Briens and the Haggard Inn serve meals that are of exceptionally high standards.  However, if you should like to take in some of the fine Irish countryside a trip to Dunderry Lodge will offer you a really top quality meal in eligant surroundings.
