History

A brief history by team founder Tony Dennison.

In June 1996 I read an article in a local newspaper advertising a 24 Hour Citroen 2CV race to be held in Mondello Park the following July. As I had competed in many 24 Hour charity 4x4 Jeep drives I decided to investigate this race. I contacted Mondello Park who put me in touch with Matt Feeney. Matt gave me a run down of what would be needed and apart from the finances and all the usual stuff he said the biggest problem facing most teams was finding a good mechanic. This was not going to be a problem for me as the team I was planning consisted of four mechanics, all highly trained and used to improvising on the ground when necessary. I was joined by Stephen Mahon, Paul Goldrick and Paul Bates, (two of whom, Stephen and Paul Bates were members of a two car 4x4 team which I as Team Manager was preparing for an assault on the National 4x4 charity 24 Hour drive being held in Dec 1996, these teams finished First and Second in the event) and we called the team T.S.P.P. Racing by taking the first letter from each of our names. In September 1996 we had a meeting at Matt’s house, he showed us a video of one of the previous races and took us to see a car that he once raced. We ended up buying it and some spare parts in October 1996. To this day some members of the team still blame Matt for all the heartache and hard work they have put into the various cars over the years, but after all is said and done we all know without Matt none of excitement and fun could have been possible. Initially the team shares were divided equally with each of us holding a 25% share, this later changed to me taking a 50% share in the team, which arose from me taking over Stephen’s 25% share in return for a share I had in a Jeep with him.

Our First car the TSPP 197 raced in July 1997. (See 1997 Race Report and images)

Our second car the TSPP 198 raced in July 1998. (See 1998 Race Report and images)

Our third car the TSPP 199 raced in July 1999. (See 1999 Race Report and images)

Our forth car the TSPP 200 should have raced in July 2000. (See 2000 report and images)

Because of the cancellation of the 2000 race we are now well advanced for the 2001 race.

Tony Dennison, September 2000.
