Tubber is located on the north Clare/south Galway border only 9 miles from the birth place of Michael Cusack in Carron. Hurling was the traditional past-time of the young people of the parish even before the G.A.A. was founded. As a result a lot of our hurling was played in hurling centres of south Galway even though we were a registered club with Clare County Board in 1885. Travel was difficult in those days. |

The parish of Kilkeedy played competitively in both hurling and football. However presently there is only a hurling club in the parish. In 1923 Tubber took its place in the County Championship of Clare. In these modern times like the past our parish team play under the name Tubber. There is still a very strong tradition of hurling in the club and a sense of pride in the black and amber. With improvements fortunately distances to games are no longer an obstacle. |
Mike Hansberry (a local balladmaker) wrote many ballads commerating local events and gatherings. He wrote one commerating the victory of Tubber over Kilnamona in 1962 in the Junior Hurling Championship Final: |
'Twas the fourteenth of October to Ennis we went down, to see the Tubber hurling club fight For the Junior crown. From the boys from Boston and Kilkeedy From Tubber and Moyhree That donned the black and amber band And fought for victory. Their opponents were Kilnamona and They were hot favourites too, But their hopes were dashed at Cusack Park ere the final whistle blew. |
