Ecclesiastical Sites

The two ecclesiastical sites we looked at in Tubber were Kilkeedy Church and Templenadeirce Church.

Kilkeedy Church

The Church of Caide - Kilkeedy, in the town of Cross, is the most significant church in the parish. The feast of Caide was celebrated until recently on the 3rd March each year. Attached to the church is a small chapel built of the family of O' Maolain ( Moylan ) with the inscription 1706 I. H. S. In an aerial survey it appears that a much bigger settlement was there in the past than is now present. A well on the site is now dry. The longer part of the church extends east/west and measures 60 feet in length and 20 feet in width. On the east gable, there is a gothic window. The small church attached to the larger church is thought to be maybe two centuries more modern than the larger part.

Graves found within Kilkeedy Church

Templenadeirce

Templenadeirce also known as The Church of the Alms is in the townland of Shanballysallagh in the south of the parish of Tubber. It is a long narrow church with no features. It is surrounded by a graveyard. To the north east of Templenadeirce in a shaded hollow is a bullan stone. This church has no existing history.
