2001/2002 Match Report #10

eircom National League First Division
After victory in Athlone our hopes weere high when we travelled to Sligo to play on Saturday night, and with 15 minutes to go we led 1-0 and looked to have secured a another good away win. Then we conceeded a goal and the whole world seemed to collaspe as Sligo ran at us from all angles and scored twice more. This defeat leaves us with just 5 points after seven games but luckily for us only 7 points off the pace setters Drogheda United. The only change to the team that won in St. Mels Park was the dropping of David Moore (very harsh) and the inclusion of Kevin Whittle who returned from injury. To accomodate this PP, as he has a habit of doing, moved other players around. Whittle came into centre midfield and Wayne Fitzgerald was moved out to the right. For a team to do defensively well in Athlone was their a need to change not one but two positions in a team that was finding its feet? Wayne had just started to link up well with new boy Dempsey in the middle and is certainly not a wide right player. Our next game is against Cobh Ramblers in the RSC on friday night, and even though I hate saying it, it is a must win game for the boys in Blue. Get down to McGinteys at 6.15pm enjoy a pint and then watch the Blues win in style.
