After the disastours start on Friday night in our opening game of the new campaign, The Blues had a point to prove in United Park on Thursday night. This game was vital because it is against one the teams who will be fighting with the Blues at the wrong end of the table in our hope to surrive in the Premier League.

Jimmy rang the changes as the Blues faced Drogheda. John Frost came in at left full after serving his one match ban carried over from last year, also Niall Clifford made his debut stating at right full in place of Paul Leahy who wasn't even on the bench after his mistakes the week previous. Gary O'Neill who impressed so much when he came on in the RSC started up front with Vinny. Also David Mulcahy was moved into midfield with Kevin O'Brien out on the right wing.

The game was tight in the first half, and it was a free kick given away by Wayne Fitzgerald just outside the area was blasted into the net and the Blues found themselves 1 down at the interval. Under McGeough Waterford were never a team to lie down and this again was to be the case in Co. Louth as we came aut fighting in the second period and ran Drogheda raggid. A superb individual goal from Niall Clifford as he took the ball at the half way line and ran towards the goal and hammered the ball home to level the tie. Darryl Murphy added a second when he replaced Vinny and a mix up in the Drogheda defence saw Gary O'Neill tap in number 3 for the Blues.

With this great result away from home it gives us great hope for the season. Maybe it was just stage fright against Shels the week before. As I've said from the start its the game against Drogheda, UCD, Longford and maybe St. Pats that are going to matter the most if we are to surrive in the premier league this season. Come on the Blues.
