FAI Cup match preview |
|
Kilkenny City V's Waterford United The last time The Blues met The Cats in the FAI Cup a replay was needed to seperate the teams and another close encounter is expected this Sunday. It took 2 goals in 1993 from Paschal Keane to finally see off our local rivals in Kilcohan Park before eventually losing to Shamrock Rovers in the next round. This season we have already met Kilkenny 4 times. The 3 league games have all ended in draws while The Blues won 2-1 in the League Cup and now look froward to a Quarter Final match against Derry City in January. Brendan Rea has taken over the mangers role since the departure of Paul Power last week and he would love to put one over his previous club. David Breen and David Walsh have also lined out for the Cats so this adds a little bit more spice to the match. Last year Waterford United reached the Semi final of the Harp Lager FAI Cup when they lost out after a replay to Longford Town. St. Francis, UCD, and Cobh Ramblers were all beaten by the mighty Blues and only for a dodgy referee's decision in the RSC we would have faced Bohemians in the Final and would have received a place in the UEFA Cup as Bohs had already won the League title. Big Brendan will have to shuffle his pack for Sunday as David Whittle and Thomas Fitzgerald are both suspended. Also with the current shortage of goals from the front men Rea has a lot of thinking to do. Probable Team Paul
