The game remained evenly matched until an innocuous strike from 30 yards was deflected past United 'keeper, Colin Corway, with the help of a divot in the ground.

'Booters then doubled their advantage before half time when a penalty was awarded for a foul on Andy Davies, who was a constant threat to the United defence.

The home side came out fighting in the second half and found a goal by Donnacha Brennan.. Both sides swapped goals all the way through the second half and the game finished level. Donnacha Brennan ended up grabbing himself a hat-trick and the game finished 4-4.

The Ladies were away to Freshford. With only 10 girls turning up the were on the back foot from the start. Freshford opened the scoring and held on to a 1-0 lead until the break. Thomastown did everything they could to grab an equaliser but Freshford grabbed another goal with 10 minutes to go. A brave Thomastown never gave up and pushed forward at every chance and were granted a penality when Niamh Bolger was taken down inside the box. She stepped up to the spot and struck the cross bar with the penality but was able to grab a goal off the rebound. Final score 2-1.

Thomastown United Youths were away to a very strong Freebooters side. Booters proved way to strong for the Thomastown side and the final score was 7-0.

Our most Senior squad the over 35's were at home in the Carlow league to Killeshin. At half time the Home side found themselves 1-0. Killeshin came out fighting in the second half and grabbed the equaliser with 5 minutes to go. Just before the final whistle Killeshin were granted a contraversial penality which they scored. Final score 2-1.

Finally our Under 9's were at home to Evergreen City. With a bad start to the game Thomastown found themselves 3-0 down after 10 minutes. Never ones to hang their heads Thomastown bravely fought on and grabbed a goal back before the half time whistle thanks to Colm Whelan. What ever Manager Vinny Maher said to his team at half time worked as Thomastown came out fighting and grabbed a fantastic goal by young Whelan again, With time running out Thomastown gave one last push and William Ashe Doyle found the back of the net and the home side came away with a share of the points, Final score 3-3.

On Saturday, our u-8s took on Lions at home in United Park, The home side took control of the game from the start and lead the game through-out and finished the game 13-0. Manager Paul Dermody couldn't pick out 1 great player as all players pulled together and gave a brilliant performance. His B-Side went out against Lions also and won their game 7-2.

Thomastown United Under 10's were at home to Stoneyford Utd. The home side proved to strong for the visiting side and the game ended 8-1. Yet again another fantastic all round team performance and the players go into the Christmas break with their heads held high.

Thomastown U-12 boys were at home to a strong Evergreen(A) side. Evergreen dominated the game from the start and banged in 3 goals with out any response from Thomastown. In the second half Evergreen grabbed 2 more goals. Final Score 5-0.

13/12

Thomastown United U10's were invited into The Watershed in Scanlon park to play in a tournament against Evergreen, Fort Rangers and Ormandvilla. This tournament was in conjunction withthe Anniversary of the Opening of the Watershed. Thomastown United didn't feel the pressure and won their 3 games and brought home the winning trophy. Big congratulations goes to managers Darren Challoner & Michael Murphy

The Junior B side were at home to St Pats of Clough. With an equal start to the game and equal chances from both sides the games went into the half time break 0-0. The home side came out fighting in the second half and grabbed 4 goals with out reply thanks to Stephen Connolly, Donnacha Brennan, Mark Pendergast and Rory Leadbetter. Final Score 4-0.

The Ladies were away to Tullaroan last Friday night, Tullaroan proved to be a much stronger and physical side and grabbed 2 goals in the first half. Just into the second half Thomastown were given another blow when striker Grace Brennan had to be substituted. It all seemed to go down hill from here for Thomastown as the home side grabbed another 4 goals with out reply. It would of been a lot more if it wasn't for the brave tackles from Aine Lannon, Hannah Murphy and the great saves from keeper Aine Sheehy. Final score 6-0. The Women's team are still looking for new players so if anyone is interested please contact Shane on 0877945922.

On Saturday, our u-9s took on Highview Ath. at home in United Park, The home side took control of the game from the start and lead the game through-out and finished the game 6-0 with thanks to great goals from Colm Whelan (2) Keelan O Grady (2) William Ashe Doyle (1) Jack Barcoe (1), Great all round team performance.

Thomastown United Under 11's were away to Ormandevilla in Kilkenny. The home side proved to strong for the Thomastown outfit in the first half and grabbed 5 goals before the half time whistle. Thomastown United Manager Eoin Hayes changed around his team at half time and managed to keep the home side at bay and even grab a consolation goal through Brian Hanrahan. Final score 5-1

Thomastown U-13 boys were very unfortunate to go out in Round 3 of the SFAI National Cup to Carlow outfit Parkville Utd on Saturday morning. The home side took the lead early in the first half when some excellent interplay between Jonathan Barron, Shane Corr and Danny Monks allowed Sean O'Neill through to calmly slip the ball past the Parkville 'keeper. Despite some pressure from the opposition, the home defence remained steady with impressive performances from Sean Farrell, Shane Butler, Tim Cummins and Aaron Keogh. Thomastown 'keeper, Colin Corway, was in outstanding form and was brave when called into action. The second half produced three good chances for Danny Monks to extend Thomastown's advantage but a combination of the crossbar and some good goalkeeping denied him. Parkville equalised midway through the second half following some hesitant defending but Thomastown kept pushing with Sam Watkins, Shane Corr, Jonathan Barron and Craig Butler particularly impressive.

With extra time looming, Thomastown were caught with a real sucker punch when a long ball into the United area was snatched on by the Parkville striker and the ball flashed past the United 'keeper into the bottom corner of the net. It was a real blow for United who were the better side on the day.

The Under 15 team were away to Clover United, Thomastown grabbed a goal just before the half time whistle through Jack Smith. Mid way through the second half Clover United grabbed the equaliser and held on for the draw. Thomastown Under 15's still remain unbeaten in the league. Final score 1-1.

The Junior A side were away to New Park (A). With a disastrous start to the game Thomastown found them selves 2-0 down and also down to 8 players. Thomastown went out in the second half to fight a massive up-hill battle and managed to grab a conciliation goal by Andy Kavanagh who calmly slotted home a penalty kick. Unfortunately Thomastown had a lot more chances that they were able to finish. Final score 2-1.

The Ladies were at home to Evergreen on Sunday morning, With some of the girls still out from illness the home side got on top of the game from the start and with in 10 minutes found the first goal with an excellent lob of the keeper from outside the box by Grace Brennan. The home side remained in full control of the game and another 2 goals in the first half from Jenny Reddy and Shauna Carroll. Thomastown entered the break 3-0 up. In the second half Thomastown started just as they finished the first half completely in control and before the end of the short half the home side grabbed on more goal by Grace Brennan. Final score 4-0, best for the home side were Rachel O Carroll, Aisling Dempsey and Jessy Carroll.
The Team is still looking for new girls to join so if your interested call Shane on 0877945922

On Saturday, our u-12s took on Evergreen City in Larchfield on an excellent surface but in terrible weather conditions, Thomastown Utd recorded a very convincing 5-2 victory with a hat trick from the excellent Sam Watkins plus one each from Dylan Farrell and Cathal (scotchy) O" Neill, the match wasnt all one way with man of the match Cian Heuston in brilliant form helped by some excellent goalkeeping from Kevin Knoppka

Great displays were from James Drea, Jaime Holden, jacl Holden and Jack O Byrne.

November 2009

29/11

Thomastown Under 9's were away to Highview Ath. on Saturday. This was their first game back in about 3 weeks due to waterlogged pitches. Thomastown came out fighting from the start and a great goal from Colm Whelan in the first 20 minutes gave the away side the lead going into half time. Thomastown started the second half just like they finished the first half with 4 more goals for William Ashe Doyle(2) and 1 a piece from Keelan O'Grady and Jack Keirns. Final Score 5-0.

The Under 13's were at home in the SFAI Cup against a strong Carrick Utd side. Both sides were even at nil nil going into the break, thomastown came out the stronger side in the second half and with all the pressure they put on they got a deserved penalty which Aaron Kehoe calmy sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted the ball into the net. Carrick side then pushed forward but the home side held on until the final whistle and earned a vital win which brings them into the next round of the SFAI Cup. Final score 1-0

Jimmy Donnelly's under 15 side were at home to a very strong Bohemians side from Waterford. Thomastown knew this wasnt going to be an easy game but were well up for the challenge, Unlucky to go one down in the first 20 minutes Thomastown battled hard and kept the score that way until half-time. Start of the second half and Thomastown were on top of the game, The kept the ball in the opposite half for at least 20 minutes but were unable to get the ball in the back of the net. 10 minutes from full-time Bohemians got a rare ball down field and managed to get a second goal and held the score that way until full-time. Final score 2-0.

Thomastown Ladies were away to league leaders Portlaoise on Sunday last, Thomastown travelled with out 4 of the regular squad due to illness. Thomastown started off well and kept the home side at bay for 20 minutes when a lapse in defence seen the home side sneak through and grab an goal and before Thomastown got a chance to settle down again the home side had another 3 gone in before the break. Just before the half time whistle Shauna Carroll was taken out of it in the box and was unlucky not to get a penalty. Second half Thomastown found themselves fighting an uphill battle against the wind. With a few chances that never materialised Thomastown found themselves going down to another 2 goals. It could of been alot more only for thomastown never let their heads down and fought until the end. Final score 6-0.
