Myross Graveyard Myross graveyard is one of the oldest burials grounds in the county dating back to the 16th century. For the last two years Mass has been celebrated there in the month of June to co-incide with the local festival. People come from far and wide to paticipate in this Mass and other priests whose ancestors are buried there have come to join with Fr.SweeneyP.P. in the celebration of the Eucharist. Just inside the gate of the grounds are the unmarked graves of some of those who died in the Lusitania disaster and the graves of new born babies who were buried their in the in the early hours the morning or late at night. In the images below can be seen the High Island and the Low Island. On the Low Island can be found the remains of an old grave yard which predates the present on. In the past 18 months a map of the graveyard has been drawn up and it is hoped to identify as many of the unmarked graves as possiblewith the help of all those who have relatives buried there.
