- Know the call out procedures for your local
mountain rescue service, emergency procedures and mountain
first aid - especially how to deal with hypothermia.
- Have a good working knowledge of map and compass.
Understand and practice the following techniques:
triangulation, contours, grid references, magnetic
and true north variances and route cards. Understand
the importance of correct mountain/walking equipment.
- Complete a number of hikes that total 2,000
metres. No mountain can be climbed more than once. One hike
must include an overnight camp.
- Follow one or more waterways for a distance of
60km or plan a walk of at least 60km that is based around
your county border.
