A shortcut to the basic EFT recipe.

1. Identify a problem

Choose any emotional or physical problem. Be as specific as possible, for instance don't use "chocolate craving" but "that craving for that piece of chocolate in the kitchen cupboard" instead.

2. Rate your problem
On a scale of 1 to 10 (0 being no problem whatsoever, and 10 being the highest level of discomfort/anxiety), give your problem a note. Your aim is to get your rating down to 0 using EFT.

3. The Setup...

Repeat 3 times this affirmation:

"Even though I have this <problem> ,

I deeply and completely accept myself."

while continuously rubbing the Sore Spot (circled on the chest on the illustration below) or tapping the Karate Chop point (on the side of the hand).

In our example above, the setup affirmation would become:

"Even though I have this <craving for that piece of chocolate in the kitchen cupboard>,

I deeply and completely accept myself."


4. The Sequence...

Note 2: I prefer to tap with all the fingers of my hands, with both hands at the same time, on both sides of my body (but that is my preference ;-). 

Tap about 7 times on each of the following energy points while repeating out loud the Reminder Phrase at each point.

The reminder phrase is a shorter version of the problem. 

In our example, it would be "that craving for that piece of chocolate".

You tap on the points in the order indicated on the left and you finish with tapping on the top of your head.

1. Eyebrow

2. Side of the Eye

3. Under the Eye

4. Under the Nose

5. Chin

6. Collarbone

7. Under the Arm

8. Beneath the Nipple

And finish with tapping on the top of the head
After the first round, re-evaluate your rating for the problem (you give it a new number - hopefully it would have gone down, if not see point 6 below).
If for instance your initial rating was 8 out of 10 and you are now 5 out of 10, that means you are making good progress. You need to do some more tapping to eventually get down to 0.

5. In subsequent rounds

The Setup affirmation and the Reminder Phrase are adjusted to reflect the fact that you are addressing the remaining problem.

So your new setup affirmation would be:

"Even though I still have this <craving for that piece of chocolate in the kitchen cupboard> ,

I deeply and completely accept myself."
And your reminder phrase would be:
"This remaining chocolate craving"
This simply indicates to your subconscious mind that you are now dealing with the remaining part of the problem.

6. If you are getting nowhere and your rating is not going down

There might be various reasons why EFT does not seem to “work” for you. 

- I say “seem” as in most cases, although you might be doing the right moves, you simply do not recognise the progress made because another aspect of the problem has appeared. Hence you think the problem is still there, and that “EFT does not work for you”. It is simply a matter of addressing with a new round of EFT each new aspect as it appears.

 

- In other cases, it might be that some toxins are preventing EFT from actually working. In which case you need to get rid of the toxin(s) and try once your system is cleared. There are various types of toxins (it can be something you ate, you breathe, something in your environment, etc.) and various ways of getting rid of them. 

 

- When dealing with complex issues (depression, anxiety, serious illness, long-term ailments, etc.) another factor might stop EFT right in its track: psychological reversal (or PR).

There are various ways of addressing PR (as there are various “degrees” of reversal).

Sometimes simply tapping the Karate Chop points of each hands against each other for about 10-15 seconds does the trick. Other times more work is needed and the help of a practitioner might be necessary.

Note: Clearing PR does not clear the issue but “opens the gates” for EFT to do its wonders.
