Eve

Black Granite, 240 cmsEve. Victoria's Way, Roundwood, Ireland

<>This is a sculpture of Eve, ‘the Mother of all Living’. She’s a mature woman of about 45, compassionate, forgiving, truly wise. <>

Hebrew tribal lore has it that the adam (meaning, ‘made of red dust’), prior to being raised by God to peer group status with the gods, to wit: “Behold, the man has become as one of us,…”, rather than ‘fall’, as deliberate Christian misinterpretation would have it, renamed the woman “Life (i.e. chavvah, Hebrew, meaning: life), the Mother of all Living”. Hence it is Eve you must thank for being alive.

Following St Paul’s false lead, the Early Church Fathers, woman haters all, first denigrated, then debased, finally dehumanized Eve, and via her all women, by claiming (i.e. with Tertullian, much admired by Pope Benny 16), that Eve (and every woman) ‘is the gateway to the Devil’, and which resulted in the Church’s psychological and physical abuse of women down the ages.
The fact is, Eve was the greatest woman who ever lived. Without her the adam would still be rooting around in the Garden in Eden, sucking on fruits, and none of us would have been born to experience and enjoy this wonderful world.
