Both the Slieve Margy Way & the Swan Loop have been designed to allow walkers join at any point and walk in either direction. One can make up many shorter loop walks. As with any walking activities chose a walking distance suitable to you or your groups capabilities. The map below gives an indication of the route and the main towns/ villages it passes through. There are many good access roads passing through & near the Slieve Margy Area & South Co. Laois. On the River Barrow side of the area the Dublin to Waterford Road (N9) passes through Carlow Town. The Rosslare Harbour to Tullamore Road (N80) dissects the Slieve Margy Area passing through such areas as Carlow/ Graiguecullen, Ballickmoyler &Arles. Between the Slieve Margy Way & the Swan Loop the Dublin to Kilkenny Road (N78) passes through Ballylynan, The Rushes, Newtown and Crettyard. Various Bus Operators service these routes. The Dublin Waterford Train Line passes through Carlow Town. For a more leisurely access to the area there are several Crusing Operators on the River Barrow & Grand Canal.
