Golden Mile Summer Series - Week 8, Thursday June 26th.
We're destined not to have a good night's weather throughout this series!
19 people braved the 'soft' rain nonetheless and great crack was had all round. We would like to apologies to Shem Cooper for not cheering him on, but we thought he needed to gain some humility!
We had 4 great races and doubles them up slightly in order to get people out of the rain more promptly.
The first race saw the return of Tim Sherman, in great form after Sunday's run in Kilmacow. Francie Lonergan continued his great runs and Seamus Cooper managed to finish with a smile on his face despite our efforts to upset him. No doubt our improving Maura O'Doherty appreciated all the biased cheering she got!
Race 2 saw Liam Power knock an incredible 9s off last week's time. Those guys in the top race had better watch out! Des Colbert, Brendan Aspel and Nicholas Halley had equally impressive runs and managed to finish ahead of the ladies, Joanne Jackman and Adele Walsh. For once Adele managed not to come last and left that honour to Pat Giles.
Race 3, run 1minute after race 2, has only 3 contenders and finished David Burke, Larry Kennedy and Conor Casey).
The last race of the night saw a very comfortable and strong James McGuire get to the tape first. Wayne Allen managed a terrific sprint for the line to take second place just ahead of Seamie Cleere, who looked was very glad to get to the line! Only 1 second separated Joe Ryan and Alan Everett after Joe stepped up the pace in the last lap. Liam Quinn got the last applause of the night and well deserved it was.
Only 2 weeks left in the Series, so come along and give it a shot!
