Waterford Road Runners

Monday August 4th, Ballymacarbry 5M, Ger Wyley/Nike Summer Series, Race 9
There's surely no better way to spend an August Bank Holiday Monday evening than in Ballymac! The heat didn't deter our 18 enthusiastic Road Runners from hitting the tarmac and trails, covering a hilly 5 miles as best they could!
First home again for the WRRs was Mark 'check out my new Bodyart' Langford in a time of 27.46, to give him 4th place, surely increasing his chances of a podium place in the overall results on Friday week in Ardmore. Gerry 'Rua' Madden claimed 2nd place in the way-over 45 section and might have to borrow Mark's new sprocket set to fill his new prize! PJ 'Eminem' Guinan was under pressure on the home straight from Des 'I love speedwork' Colbert as Des picked up the pace over the last couple of miles. PJ will have to watch out in Ardmore as Des's flu will have cleared up and won't be 'taking it easy' next time.
Davey 'Fonda' Wade suffered no ill effects after his exams and finished in 31.34, 50s before Nicholas 'DJ' Halley. Hot on Nicholas's heels was PJ 'I've lost my inserts again' Irish (we won't ask what inserts!) who had to hold tough coming up to the line to stay ahead of Tom '3 month holiday' O'Brien. Joanne 'Hostess with the mostess' Jackman was delighted with her 3rd place prize of a hostess trolley, allowing her to safely serve tea in the drawing room. Adele 'More hill training' Walsh buckled under the pressure in the form of her mother to just about hold onto 6th place on the night. Joanne and Adele will have to battle hard to beat last year's Ardmore winner, Corina Walsh to keep their top spots on the leader board.
Darryl 'Duos Cerveza' Hale showed a good return to form after his holidays and finished in just over 33m, closely followed home by Paul 'No spot prize this time' Mooney. Mick 'watch out Abebe Bikila' Neville certainly doesn't need his new torch to show him how to where and how fast to run as he sped home in a time of 34.02 to claim 1st O/60. (FYI, Mick once beat Bikila over a 12K race in Prague!).
Brendan 'Sunbed' Aspel didn't enjoy those hills either and is looking forward to a faster 5 in Ardmore. Alan 'Curly' Everett, Michael 'Mo' Leechmere and Tim 'Larry' Sherman's finish was split only by James 'round and round the Crystal Pitches' Fitzgerald arriving home between Larry and Mo.
